So you decided to use moving storage because you were impressed with how safe and economical it is as a moving option, and you liked how little gas it takes to transport moving storage. Storage containers are indeed an excellent green option. But you’re appalled at the waste involved in packing. How can you pack your moving storage container while still going green?
Moving boxes, a prime source of waste, are the place where a little effort on your part can make the biggest impact on the environment. Rather than starting your move by running out and buying a pile of boxes, check Craigslist, Freecycle, and other free boards in your area for used boxes that other people are throwing out. If you live in even a moderately large city, you can stock up with more boxes than you will ever need in no time at all. The only boxes you will need to buy are specialty boxes like picture boxes and glassware boxes.
(However, note that this is not recommended in areas with a lot of cockroaches or bedbugs. Both types of insects can infest cardboard boxes, so you may arrive at the end of your move with a problem you didn’t have when you started. This is also why getting boxes from grocery stores should be an emergency measure; even the cleanest groceries have roaches.)
Packing materials are another area where traditional packing generates too much waste and going green can make a sizable difference. Get used packing materials at the same time that you get used boxes, and supplement them with your own soft furnishings. Towels, pillows, and blankets should be used as packing materials, not folded in a box. When those run out, thin plastic grocery bags make excellent packing material. (They’re not green, but most people have drifts of them in their kitchen anyway.) Old newspapers are another classic choice. If you have no newspapers because you went green by switching to online delivery, shredded junk mail makes great “packing peanuts.”
Depending on the make of your moving storage container and how full you packed it, you might need to tie your boxes down with rope. Again, reusing others’ rope is a good option. However, if you must buy rope, choose a type of rope that is made of natural fibers, such as cotton or hemp, or a recyclable synthetic such as nylon.
Packing your moving storage container in an eco friendly way requires a little more effort and consciousness than the old wasteful way. However, the end result is just as safe for your belongings, and far better for the rest of the world. When you finish the cycle by handing your used packing materials on to the next person who needs to move, using a moving storage container will not only be a green moving option, it will be a green option, period.

When you are ready to make the move, you simply call the moving service and they will transport the moving pods to the location that you specify.
A further advantage to moving pods is that this convenience does not entail any additional charges. Traditional moving service may charge you extra if you are not able to finish packing according to schedule, while moving pods do not have any such restrictions.
Another benefit to using moving pods is that you can let the professional skilled drivers handle the difficult and oftentimes dangerous job of driving a heavy load to a destination. Moving pods services have pros do all the work so you don’t have to!
As far as security is concerned, moving pods allow you to lock your container and keep the key with you at all times.
Putting most of your belongings in a portable storage unit can be a great option if you are moving with only a small vehicle. You can take only the necessities and leave the grunt work to the storage company during your move. Saving money in gas can be one surprising benefit of moving storage, since you only have to go outside your front door to retrieve items once you have moved them to your residence.
An additional big benefit is the size variation that this sort of storage comes in. Like others, you may desire to economize during the hard times many of us are facing financially right now.
I will be reading more soon. This is a great blog dude.
Franchises are usually offered by well established self storage companies that have a comprehensive infrastructure in place. Acquiring a Franchise helps cut costs as these support facilities are already in existence with the parent company. The parent company facilities are therefore available at the beck and call of the Storage Franchise owner. In addition, the brand name of the company acts as a powerful motivator for customers to hire a franchise.
Advertisement and marketing infrastructure of the parent company is typically available for the Storage Franchise owner to exploit.
Awesome blog.
The moving pods system is very simple. The company delivers the pod to your door and, for a predetermined fee, you keep the pod and load it at your leisure. When finished with your packing, you lock the moving pod, keeping the only key to the pod in your possession, thus maintaining sole control over the safety of your belongings. No one else has access to your things. When you are ready, the company retrieves the moving pod and delivers it to your new home, whether across town or across the country.
If you use a portable storage container, however, you simply make a call and the container is relocated for you.
7. Unpacking intelligently. With traditional moving methods, everything goes in the house at once– and is generally in the way. With portable storage, you unpack at your own pace, leaving some items in the portable storage unit until you’re ready for them.
To help the consumers feel secure self storage complexes usually have fences and cameras on the grounds. This is to protect the belongings of everyone no matter the value of the objects.
Another huge advantage is that several self storage companies have climate controlled units available. This works great if you need to store something like electronics and do not want them out in the extreme heat or cold. Many times consumers have some of the items could be environmentally sensitive.
